A good quality student violin can be rented for approximately $20 per month. There are numerous music shops in town where you can rent or purchase a quality instrument. Since your child will be in a fractional size instrument, renting is the most popular option. As your child grows each year, they will also need to change the size of their instrument. Renting, allows for the flexibility to exchange into the next size free of charge. Below, we have suggested a few Violin Shops which you may want to consider.
Should you choose to purchase an instrument, it is highly recommended that one uses a reputable shop who has an experienced Luthier (violin technician). The set-up of a violin, viola, cello or bass, needs to be done by a skilled technician. Without the proper set-up, an instrument can be very difficult to play. Buyer be ware of attractive internet bargains. Often these internet bargains require a re-fitting of the bridge, fingerboard, etc, and in the end could cost more than what was paid for the instrument.
If you have any questions about the sizing of the instrument for your child, please let us know. In addition, the above local shops are able to size students for an instrument in their shop.
*The cost of tuition does not cover the cost of an instrument rental*
